Spotted: Becky doing “work”.
I got recognized at the gym by an OkCupid guy that I’m talking to. He apparently saw me and was like, “If you were that girl, that girl was doing WORK!” He didn’t acknowledge me at the gym, said he was embarrassed.
But yeah. I decided to restart NROL for women because I’ve lost some strength since the last time I did it. Added some ab exercises but they ended up being random because they started moving cardio machines to where I was so they could buff the floors after closing time.

Week 1 Day 1 of Marathon Training..
For Kalamazoo! We are exactly 18 weeks out! I’m doing the Hal Higdon intermediate plan.
Day 1: Cross training.
Umm, well, I’m probably going to capoeira and CrossFit tonight, so that should work.
Until then I’m spending the day reading training books and Dean Karnazes.
I think I might get back into NROL for women. I don’t know if it’s my sleep habits, my eating, or what, but I haven’t lost anything and have been gaining weight. Today I weighed in at 148.8 lbs. Bleh. I’ve run 3 days in a row I don’t understand! Oh well. My sleep habits probably have a big part because I’m just now switching to sleeping at night.
So despite today’s semi mysterious news..
I worked out today. It’s week 2, workout 4 in the new rules of lifting.
I’m really happy with the way it’s making me push myself. Because when theres some plan that’s telling me I have to specifically do x amount of sets of so many reps I DO those sets. And I make sure it’s hard. It’s the same with running. I know I can do it because the plan asked me to, so there’s no question that I can/will do what I’m asked because I’ve already decided that I can.
So today was workout B. Not too shabby.
Deadlift (including the 2 warmup sets): 20-10-15-15 @ 45-95-115-125 lbs
Dumbbell Shoulder Press: 2x15 @ 15-17.5 lbs
Wide Grip Lat Pulldown: 2x15 @ 70 lbs
Lunge w/1 warmup set: 10-15-15 @ bw-15-17.5 lbs
Swiss ball crunch: 2x8. For these I held each rep for 10 seconds, because I can’t figure out for the life of me how to make this difficult without weight.
So yeah. After that was the week 3 pushup test for 100 pushups, did 55 pushups. Not COMPLETELY in a row, because there was a point where someone walked into the room and I got self conscious but then I realized that the kid was blind so he wouldn’t be judging my technique anyway even with his badassery.
Also, for those of you that were curious and I hadn’t already told, things with Rich didn’t work out. He decided to stop messaging me after this last Saturday, not exactly sure what happened but it did. Was a little disappointed because I really liked him, but I guess he made the decision he wanted. C’est la vie.
2 workouts down, 6 more months to go!
I think I really like the New rules of lifting for Women.
I did the second workout of stage 1 and once again I was surprised at the difficulty! It was different having to think about what weights I could do 15 reps of in exercises. The exercises themselves aren’t complicated, it’s pretty standard but I like the format. I like plans.
So my first two workouts, and also added is the 100 pushups program that I have been doing at the end of the workout.
All the exercises mainly had me do 2 sets of 15 reps, any additional ones I did were warmups. Anything labeled A1, A2 with the same letters were done as alternating sets.
Day 1: workout A 11/30/11
Squats: 20-10-15-15 @ BW-45-85-95 lbs
A1: Pushups: 2x15
A2: Seated Row: 2x15 @ 75 lbs
B1: Step up: 2x 15 @ 17.5 lbs
B2: Prone jackknife: 2x15
Pushups: 10-12-9-9-13
Day 2: Workout B 12/2/11
Deadlift: 10-15-15 @ 45-115-125 lbs
C1: DB Shoulder Press: 2x15 @ 17.5-15 lbs
C2: Wide Grip Lat Pulldown: 2x15 @ 55 lbs
D1: Lunges: 2x15 @ 15 lbs
D2: Swiss Ball Crunch: 2x10
Pushups: 12-13-10-10-15
Excited for today.
Have a nutrition test in an hour. Not looking forward to that but it should be quick.
Got a meeting/Christmas party for work. Gonna try to resist the Mexican food (I dunno why my boss thought Mexican and Christmas parties coincide) and the mini cupcakes I’m bringing.
After that gonna go to the gym and do my second NROL for women workout!
I’m actually still sore from Wednesday! That makes me happy. I also want to run but I think I might wait for tomorrow for that.
I should be seeing Rich tonight! Don’t know what we’re going to be doing but I told him little to no drinking if we can. He seems to go out and eat at restaurants a lot so we’ll see if that’s what he’s going to want to do. He lives on Fort Carson, the Army base here so he doesn’t really get to cook much since he lives in the barracks. I assume that sucks.
So yeah. Should be a really good day!
Also random fact: my best friend Victor that’s training for his first marathon in January? We figured out his last real long run before taper will be on New Year’s day. He’s doing 22 miles. He’s awesome. and he texted me last night to let me know he beasted his 3 miles at 3am and did it in 19 minutes. So jealous. I love him he’s so dedicated.
My stomach may not be at its best right now, but holy shit my arms! I just finished doing day 1 of the NROL for Women (which was way harder than it looked on paper! I was initially put off by the number of reps but when I scale it to my regular lifting weight it was quite difficult! Also the new exercises really caught me by surprise by how hard the were.) and the 100 pushups week 2 day 2, (which means I did 53 pushups PLUS what was in my workout, which was 30) my arms are like WOAH.
I also think I found new muscle definition around my deltoid. Ahhh I love weight lifting.
Those of you that want better arms, as much as they suck, PUSHUPS HELP.
But yeah. Love my arms today.
Yay for community health care?
Not really sure what my health program is called. But I just showed up to get my birth control shot (warning: I get emotional the week after I get the shot so if I get particularly upset it probably just hormones), asked about STD testing since I had no idea what the procedure was, and for 21 dollars they do all the major tests. I didn’t have 21 dollars but I paid for one of the tests. SO MUCH CHEAPER THAN SCHOOL AND PLANNED PARENTHOOD (the PP here in my town doesn’t use the sliding scale for payments). At school it would have been like at least 80 dollars, and at PP it was like well over 100 (that’s including the girly exam that I don’t want to get).
So yeah.
Also, I’m starting to follow the New Rules of Lifting for Women! I got the book yesterday and I love it so far!
I particularly love how much food they want you to eat, and the recipes are actually doable! Every book I get that’s been like this requires a shit ton of money for food but most of the recipes I already have a lot of the ingredients! And you don’t have to use the recipes but I like them.
After work I’m gonna do the first workout!
